Persis
Persis appears once in the text, greeted by name among the Roman believers at the close of Paul's letter.
A Believer in Rome
Within the long list of greetings that closes Romans, Persis is named alongside Tryphaena and Tryphosa, three women whose work for the Lord is the basis of Paul's commendation: "Greet Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who labor in the Lord. Greet Persis the beloved, who labored much in the Lord" (Ro 16:12). The two clauses run in parallel, with a small intensifying shift — Tryphaena and Tryphosa "labor," Persis "labored much" — and Persis alone receives the affectionate qualifier "the beloved."
