Pethuel
Pethuel appears once in the text, named in the superscription that opens the book of Joel.
Father of the Prophet Joel
The book of Joel begins with a single line of attribution: "The word of Yahweh that came to Joel the son of Pethuel" (Joel 1:1). Pethuel is identified solely by paternity — the father of the prophet — and the patronymic functions as the only frame the book gives for its prophet's identity.
