Prisca

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Prisca is a female disciple in Paul's circle, named together with her husband Aquila in the Pauline letters. The text consistently calls her by the shorter form "Prisca."

A Coworker in Christ Jesus

When Paul sends greetings to the Roman house assemblies, Prisca stands at the head of his list of named contacts: "Greet Prisca and Aquila my coworkers in Christ Jesus," (Ro 16:3). The label "coworkers" places her, with her husband, inside Paul's missionary labor rather than at its margins.

A House-Church in Asia

From Ephesus the same couple sends greetings back through Paul to Corinth. The text shows their household as the meeting place for a local assembly: "The churches of Asia greet you⁺. Aquila and Prisca greet you⁺ much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house" (1Co 16:19).

Final Greeting in Ephesus

The latest mention places Prisca in Ephesus alongside Aquila, where Timothy is to convey Paul's parting greeting: "Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the house of Onesiphorus" (2Ti 4:19).

Across all three notices the pattern holds — Prisca and Aquila as a paired ministry household, named together, hosting an assembly, and remembered by the apostle to the end of his life.
