Punon

Places · Updated 2026-05-06

Punon is a city of Edom that appears in the wilderness itinerary as one of the camping grounds of the Israelites during their forty years of wandering.

A Camp on the Wilderness Itinerary

The stage-list of Numbers 33 places Punon between Zalmonah and Oboth. The Israelites arrive there from the previous camp and depart from it to the next: "And they journeyed from Zalmonah, and encamped in Punon. And they journeyed from Punon, and encamped in Oboth" (Nu 33:42-43). The notice is bare — no event is recorded at Punon itself; the camp is named only as a fixed point on the route through Edomite territory.
