Raamiah

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Raamiah is one of the leaders who returned to Jerusalem from captivity in Babylon. He appears in the Nehemiah register of those who came up with Zerubbabel, and the parallel Ezra list names the same figure as Reelaiah.

A Leader of the Return

The Nehemiah catalogue places him in the head of the company: "who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah" (Ne 7:7). The name appears once and only here in this form.

The Parallel Ezra List: Reelaiah

The same return is recorded in Ezra with the leadership cohort named again: "who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah" (Ezr 2:2). The position in the sequence — and the surrounding names — line the two registers up so that Raamiah of Nehemiah and Reelaiah of Ezra stand for the same returning leader.
