Rephael

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Rephael appears once in scripture, named in the Davidic register of the doorkeeper courses for the house of Yahweh.

Among the Doorkeepers

Within the listing of the courses of the doorkeepers, the Chronicler records: "Also to Shemaiah his son were sons born, that ruled over the house of their father; for they were mighty men of valor. The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad, whose brothers were valiant men, Elihu, and Semachiah" (1Ch 26:6-7). Rephael is grouped under the line of Obed-edom, classed among "able men in strength for the service" (1Ch 26:8).
