Ribai

Ribai is a Benjamite from Gibeah, named in the Bible only as the father of one of David's Mighty Men. He himself does no recorded action; he appears solely in the patronymic of his son.

Father of Ittai of Gibeah

David's roster of Mighty Men preserves the line: "Heleb the son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the sons of Benjamin" (2 Sam 23:29). The Chronicler's parallel runs through the same warriors with one variant on the son's name: "Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the sons of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite" (1 Chr 11:31). Ribai himself is constant across both lists; the difference is between Ittai in Samuel and Ithai in Chronicles for the son.

The notice fixes Ribai's geography and tribe — Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin — and his standing through his son's enrollment among David's elite warriors.
