Sabtecha

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Sabtecha is one of the sons of Cush listed in the Table of Nations. He appears in the two parallel genealogies, where UPDV preserves the name in the form "Sabteca."

A Son of Cush

In the Genesis lineage he closes the list of five sons of Cush: "And the sons of Cush: Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba, and Dedan" (Gen 10:7). The chronicler's parallel preserves the same five names in the same order: "And the sons of Cush: Seba, and Havilah, and Sabta, and Raama, and Sabteca. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba, and Dedan" (1 Chr 1:9). Sabteca and Sabtecha are forms of the same name.

Nothing further is said of him. He stands in the genealogy as the last of Cush's named sons, paired with his brother Sabta (Sabtah) at either side of Raamah, whose own descendants — Sheba and Dedan — extend the line a generation further.
