Sallu
Sallu is a Benjamite named among the residents of Jerusalem in two parallel post-exilic genealogies. Both lists place him in the line of Meshullam and identify him as one of the sons of Benjamin who settled in the city after the return.
A Benjamite of Jerusalem
In the Chronicler's roster of those who lived in Jerusalem after the exile, the Benjamite line opens with him: "And of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah" (1Ch 9:7).
Nehemiah's list of Jerusalem's repopulation gives the same descent through Meshullam but extends the genealogy further back: "And these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah" (Ne 11:7).
The two records together preserve a single Benjamite family head settling in Jerusalem in the restoration period, with the Chronicler's shorter chain and Nehemiah's longer one converging on the same Sallu son of Meshullam.
