Saraph
Saraph is a man listed in the genealogy of Shelah, son of Judah, remembered for his rule in Moab.
A Descendant of Shelah
The chronicler preserves Saraph among the line of Shelah and notes the early reach of that family eastward across the Jordan: "and Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had dominion in Moab. And they returned to Lehem. And the records are ancient" (1Ch 4:22). The closing remark — "the records are ancient" — frames Saraph's brief notice as a fragment from one of the oldest tribal traditions of Judah.
