Sardonyx
Sardonyx is a banded gemstone named once in scripture, set as one of the twelve foundation stones of the New Jerusalem.
A Foundation Stone of the New Jerusalem
The vision of the descending city catalogs each tier of its wall by the precious stone that adorns it. Sardonyx stands fifth in the sequence: "the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst" (Rev 21:20). The stone takes its place in a list whose cumulative effect is the brilliance of the heavenly city's foundations, each course a different jewel.
