Sebat

Sebat is the eleventh month of the Hebrew calendar, falling roughly in February. It appears once in scripture, where it dates a word of Yahweh given to Zechariah. UPDV spells the name "Shebat."

A Date for the Word of Yahweh

The month fixes the timing of a prophetic message in the second year of Darius: "On the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying," (Zec 1:7). The month name carries no further freight in the text itself; it serves as a precise calendar marker for when Zechariah received the night visions that follow.
