Shamer
The umbrella collects two men whose name appears in the Chronicler's genealogies. UPDV renders the name "Shemer" in each occurrence, with one variant "Shomer."
A Merarite Levite
In the line of Merari, traced upward through the Levites set on the left of the singing service, the name appears in the chain: "the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer" (1Ch 6:46). The link follows from Hashabiah and Amaziah and runs back to Mahli, Mushi, Merari, and Levi (1Ch 6:45-47).
An Asherite, Son of Heber
In the genealogy of Asher, Heber's children are named: "And Heber begot Japhlet, and Shomer, and Hotham, and Shua their sister" (1Ch 7:32). The same figure recurs a few verses later, where the spelling shifts: "And the sons of Shemer: Ahi, and Rohgah, Jehubbah, and Aram" (1Ch 7:34). His four sons stand in the Asherite list among the heads of houses.
