Shamhuth

Shamhuth is one of the twelve captains set over David's monthly courses, named as the officer for the fifth month.

Captain of the Fifth Course

Within the rotation of monthly divisions that served the king, Shamhuth holds the fifth slot. "The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand" (1Ch 27:8). His tribal designation is given as Izrahite, and the size of his course matches the standard reckoning of twenty-four thousand assigned to each of the twelve monthly captains.
