Sharuhen

Sharuhen appears once in the UPDV, listed among the towns assigned to the tribe of Simeon within the larger inheritance of Judah.

A Town in the Inheritance of Simeon

In the catalogue of Simeon's allotment, Sharuhen closes a string of named settlements: "and Beth-lebaoth, and Sharuhen; thirteen cities with their villages:" (Jos 19:6). The summing phrase, "thirteen cities with their villages," fixes Sharuhen as the last entry of that group. The Simeonite inheritance lay "in the midst of the inheritance of the sons of Judah" (Jos 19:1), so Sharuhen belongs to the southern coastal-plain hinterland that Simeon held from within Judah's territory.
