Sheshan
Sheshan is a descendant of Jerahmeel in the Judahite genealogy of Chronicles. The notice fixes him in the line through Appaim and Ishi and then turns to the unusual circumstance of his succession.
In the Line of Jerahmeel
The Chronicler runs the line down to Sheshan and on to his named offspring: "And the sons of Appaim: Ishi. And the sons of Ishi: Sheshan. And the sons of Sheshan: Ahlai" (1Ch 2:31).
Succession through a Daughter
The next paragraph supplies the qualification behind that single named heir. Sheshan has no surviving male line, so he gives his daughter in marriage to a foreign slave of his household and continues the line through her: "Now Sheshan had no sons, but daughters. And Sheshan had a slave, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha. And Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his slave as wife; and she bore him Attai" (1Ch 2:34-35). Attai is the son of that union, and the genealogy continues from him through Nathan, Zabad, and onward.
