Shethar
Shethar is one of the seven inner counsellors of Ahasuerus, named in the opening scene of Esther.
A Prince of Persia and Media
When Vashti refuses to appear before the banquet, the king turns to those nearest his throne. Es 1:14 lists them by name: "and the next to him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king's face, and sat first in the kingdom)." Shethar stands second in the list — among those with right of access to the king's presence and the highest rank in the kingdom. The seven serve as the deliberative body that hears the case and recommends Vashti's removal.
