Shihor-libnath

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Shihor-libnath is a boundary marker on the western edge of the tribe of Asher, named once in scripture as the inheritance of that tribe is being measured out.

A Boundary on the Coast of Asher

The site appears in the territorial list for Asher, paired with Carmel as the western reach of the allotment: "and Allammelech, and Amad, and Mishal; and it reached to Carmel westward, and to Shihor-libnath" (Josh 19:26). The text uses Shihor-libnath as an outer landmark — Carmel to the west, and from there the border touches Shihor-libnath — without describing the place further. Whatever its precise nature, scripture preserves it only as a point on Asher's surveyed line.
