Shimeathites

The Shimeathites are one of the scribal families of Jabez, named in the Kenite genealogy attached to the Rechabite line.

A Family of Scribes at Jabez

The text places the Shimeathites among three scribal families settled in one town: "And the families of scribes who dwelt at Jabez: the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, the Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came of Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab" (1Chr 2:55). The verse is the only notice of the Shimeathites in scripture. It locates them socially as scribes, geographically at Jabez, and ancestrally inside the Kenite stock that Hammath fathered and from which the house of Rechab is reckoned.
