Shitrai

Shitrai is one of David's herd officers, in charge of the cattle that grazed on the plain of Sharon.

Overseer of the Sharon Herds

His office is fixed by region in the list of David's royal stewards: "and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai" (1Ch 27:29). The pairing with Shaphat divides the king's pastoral economy between coastal plain and inland valleys, with Shitrai responsible for the Sharon side. The "Sharonite" gentilic ties him to the territory itself.
