Shobab
Two men bear the name Shobab: a son of David born in Jerusalem, and a son of Caleb in the line of Hezron.
Son of David
Shobab is listed among the sons born to David in Jerusalem after the move from Hebron. The 2 Samuel register names him with Shammua, Nathan, and Solomon: "And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon" (2 Sam 5:14). The Chronicler's parallel registers preserve the same grouping. The first lists him with Shimea, Nathan, and Solomon and identifies the mother: "and these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bath-shua the daughter of Ammiel" (1 Chr 3:5). The second repeats the Jerusalem-born list: "And these are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon" (1 Chr 14:4).
Son of Caleb
A second Shobab appears in the Calebite genealogy. He is one of three sons borne to Caleb the son of Hezron by Azubah: "And Caleb the son of Hezron begot [children] of Azubah [his] wife, and of Jerioth; and these were her sons: Jesher, and Shobab, and Ardon" (1 Chr 2:18).
