Shua
Two figures bear the name Shua: a Canaanite who became Judah's father-in-law, and a daughter of Heber in the genealogy of Asher.
Father-in-law of Judah
Shua is the Canaanite whose daughter Judah marries: "And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua. And he took her, and entered her" (Gen 38:2). Her death is later reported with the same patronymic: "And in process of time Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheep-shearers to Timnah, he and his companion Hirah the Adullamite" (Gen 38:12). The Chronicler's genealogy of Judah names her sons and again identifies her by her father: "The sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah; which three were born to him of Shua's daughter the Canaanitess. And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Yahweh; and he slew him" (1 Chr 2:3).
Daughter of Heber
A different Shua appears in the genealogy of Asher as a daughter rather than a father: "And Heber begot Japhlet, and Shomer, and Hotham, and Shua their sister" (1 Chr 7:32).
