Shuni
Shuni is one of the sons of Gad, listed both in the migration into Egypt and in the wilderness census as the ancestor of the clan of the Shunites.
In the household of Jacob
When the families of Israel go down into Egypt, Gad's sons are enumerated together: "And the sons of Gad: Zephon, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli" (Ge 46:16). Shuni stands third in the list.
The clan of the Shunites
The census in Numbers reads the same names as clan-eponyms a generation removed: "The sons of Gad after their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni, the family of the Shunites" (Nu 26:15). Shuni's descendants are the Shunites, one of the seven Gadite clans counted in the wilderness.
