Sinites

People · Updated 2026-05-06

The Sinites are one of the Canaanite peoples named in the Table of Nations. They appear only as a single entry in two parallel genealogies, with no narrative attached.

In the Table of Nations

Genesis lists the descendants of Canaan as a series of peoples; among them, "and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite" (Ge 10:17). The Sinite is grouped with the other Canaanite tribes that hold the land before Israel's arrival.

The Chronicler's genealogy

The opening genealogies of Chronicles reproduce the same list verbatim: "and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite" (1Ch 1:15). The Chronicler carries the entry forward without expansion, fixing the Sinites in the inherited Canaanite tribe list.
