Siphmoth

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Siphmoth is a city of Judah named once, in the list of southern towns to whom David sent gifts from the spoil he recovered after the Amalekite raid on Ziklag.

A City in David's Spoil-List

The single occurrence places Siphmoth among the towns of Judah's south where David's allies and kin lived: "and to those who were in Arad, and to those who were in Siphmoth, and to those who were in Eshtemoa" (1Sa 30:28). The verse drops Siphmoth between Arad and Eshtemoa in a roll-call of recipient communities. Its location is fixed only by that company — towns of southern Judah — and by the role the list gives it as one of the places that received a portion of the recovered Amalekite spoil.
