Snuffdishes

Topics · Updated 2026-05-07

Snuffdishes are small trays among the gold furnishings made for the lampstand of the tabernacle, paired with the snuffers used to trim the wicks of the seven lamps.

In the Tabernacle

The instruction for the lampstand's accessories specifies the metal: "And its snuffers, and its snuffdishes, will be of pure gold" (Ex 25:38). The dishes belong to the same set of pure-gold implements that serve the lamps directly, alongside the lampstand itself, its lamps, tongs, and bowls — every utensil in immediate contact with the burning oil and trimmed wicks shaped from the same metal.
