Spain
Spain appears in UPDV only in Paul's letter to the Romans, as the western terminus of a missionary journey he intends to undertake by way of Rome itself.
Paul's Planned Visit
Paul announces the destination as he explains why he writes to a congregation he has not yet seen: "whenever I go to Spain (for I hope to see you⁺ in my journey, and to be brought on my way to there by you⁺, if first in some measure I will have been satisfied with your⁺ company)--" (Ro 15:24). Rome is set up here as the staging point for the further westward push, with the Roman Christians expected to send him onward.
A few verses later he resumes the same plan after a digression about the relief offering for Jerusalem: "When therefore I have accomplished this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go on by you⁺ to Spain" (Ro 15:28). The two notices bracket the explanation of his Jerusalem errand and frame it as the only thing keeping him from setting out.
