Tabbath

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Tabbath is a place named once, on the line of the Midianite rout that follows Gideon's night attack with the trumpets and torches.

On the Line of the Midianite Rout

When the three hundred blew their trumpets, the panic spread through the camp and the host turned on itself: "And they blew the three hundred trumpets, and Yahweh set every man's sword against his fellow soldier, and against all the host; and the host fled as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath" (Jud 7:22). Tabbath is fixed as a boundary-marker for the flight — the rout reaches the border of Abel-meholah, and Tabbath is the point alongside which that border is named.
