Tibhath

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Tibhath is a city of Hadarezer's territory taken by David, named once in scripture as a source of the bronze later used for major furnishings of Solomon's temple.

A City Conquered by David

In the chronicler's record of David's wars, Tibhath is paired with Cun as one of the cities of Hadarezer from which David carried off a large quantity of bronze: "And from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadarezer, David took very much bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of bronze" (1Ch 18:8). The verse traces the metal forward from spoils of war to the bronze sea, the temple pillars, and the bronze vessels of the sanctuary, so the conquest of Tibhath is folded into the supply chain that later furnishes Solomon's temple.
