Tob
Tob is a region east of the Jordan to which Jephthah fled from his brothers and from which the Gileadite elders later fetched him to lead them against Ammon.
The Land of Jephthah's Exile
The flight is given short. Driven out by his brothers, Jephthah settled outside the Gileadite territory and gathered a band there: "Then Jephthah fled from his brothers, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain fellows to Jephthah, and they went out with him" (Jdg 11:3).
The Land from Which the Elders Fetch Jephthah
When Ammon went to war, the elders went looking for him in the same place: "And it was so, that, when the sons of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob" (Jdg 11:5).
