Uel

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Uel is named once in scripture, inside the long roster Ezra preserves of men who had married foreign wives during the post-exilic settlement.

One of the Sons of Bani

The list moves family by family. After the sons of Hashum, the text turns to the next group: "Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, and Uel" (Ezra 10:34). Uel stands third in the line, with Maadai and Amram preceding him and Benaiah, Bedeiah, and Cheluhi following in the next verse (Ezra 10:35).

His name appears in the section of Ezra 10 that catalogs by family the men who had taken foreign wives and who, under Ezra's reform, agreed to put those wives away. The roster gives no further detail beyond the name and the family-of-Bani placement; everything scripture says about Uel is the one line that names him among his brothers.
