Uthai
Two men bear the name Uthai. One belongs to the genealogies of Judah after the return; the other appears in Ezra's list of returnees travelling up from Babylon.
Uthai of Judah
The first is named in the post-exilic resettlement of Jerusalem: "Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the sons of Perez the son of Judah" (1Ch 9:4). The line traces him back through Perez to Judah, placing him in the tribal record of those who came back to inhabit the city.
Uthai of the Sons of Bigvai
The second Uthai travels in Ezra's caravan from Babylon. Among the family contingents listed alongside their leaders, the record reads: "And of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zaccur; and with them seventy males" (Ezra 8:14). Here the name marks one of the heads who shepherded seventy men of Bigvai's house back to Jerusalem.
