Weeds
Weeds is the term UPDV uses in the Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds (Matthew 8:20-26, renumbered from the standard Matthew 13:24-30). In the parable a man sows good seed in his field, but an enemy secretly sows weeds among the wheat while the workers sleep: "but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed weeds also among the wheat, and went away" (Matthew 8:21).
When the workers discover the mixture and offer to pull the weeds, the householder forbids it lest the wheat be uprooted with them: "Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the weeds, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn" (Matthew 8:26). Older translations including the KJV and ASV render the same Greek term as "tares."
