Abiel
Abiel is the Benjamite ancestor through whom Saul's house descends. He is the father of Kish and grandfather of Saul, and he stands behind Abner as well. The umbrella also points to the variant name Abi-Albon used elsewhere of one of David's warriors.
Saul's grandfather
The line is set out at the close of the chapter that introduces Saul's reign: "And Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel" (1Sa 14:51). Kish and Ner are Abiel's sons, and Saul and Abner are his grandsons.
In the Benjamite genealogy
The opening of the Saul narrative places Abiel in the longer pedigree: "Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a man [of] Benjamin, a mighty man of valor" (1Sa 9:1). The two notices match — Kish's father in both — so the same Abiel stands at the head of the line.
