Hermas
Hermas is one of the believers at Rome whom Paul greets by name in the closing salutations of his letter. Nothing is said of him beyond his place in the list and his shared fellowship with the brothers gathered around him.
A Christian at Rome
The single notice falls in Paul's roll of greetings near the end of the epistle: "Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers who are with them" (Rom 16:14). Hermas stands fifth in a cluster of five named men, followed by an unnamed group of brothers identified as those with them. The pairing places Hermas in the same household or assembly as Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, and Patrobas — a small circle within the wider Roman church that Paul knows by name and singles out for greeting.
